When I first set up The Pamper Shed, I had a vision: a cosy, welcoming space that allowed me to do what I love, on my terms. What I didn’t quite realise at the time was how beautifully (and sometimes chaotically!) that vision would intertwine with family life.

Running a business from home is both a blessing and a balancing act — especially when you’re also a mum.
The Shed Life Balance
My treatment room is just steps away from my back door, but some days it feels like it’s a world apart. The moment I step inside The Pamper Shed, it’s calm, soothing, and set up for my clients’ relaxation. But just before that? I’ve likely done a workout, the nursery run, negotiated my daughter’s outfit for the day, shoved a load of washing on, and cleared away the breakfast dishes — all before 8AM.

This is the reality of running a business at home with a family. You wear all the hats — therapist, businesswoman, cleaner, mum, snack-provider, tech support, and driver — often all in one morning.
The Unexpected Perks
There’s something really special about having my work so close to home. It means I’m present for the moments that matter: the nursery events, the sniffles, the cuddles on the sofa. I can pop in for dinner with my daughter, be there for pickup, and still run a full schedule of appointments.

It also means my daughter is growing up seeing me build something. She’s witnessed the hustle, the heart, and the self-belief it takes to turn a little garden shed into a thriving beauty business. I hope she carries that spirit into whatever she does.
The Challenges (And How I Handle Them)
Let’s be honest — it’s not always picture-perfect.
There are client calls taken with a small voice yelling “Mummy!” in the background. There are days when the juggle feels like a struggle. And yes, I’ve definitely gone back into the salon after dinner, smeared with some kind of food substance following a sloppy wet kiss from my daughter!
But I’ve learned a few things along the way:
“Be present in the moments that matter – in the salon, I’m a Beauty Therapist. At home I’m a mum and a wife. And both roles matter just as much”
Me
Set boundaries: Even when your workspace is at home, you need off-hours. I try to close the shed door — mentally and physically — once I’m done for the day.
Get organised: Lists are my lifeline. I plan social content, client appointments, and family meals all in one planner.
Be present in the moments that matter: In the salon, I’m a dedicated beauty therapist — giving each client my full focus and care. At home, I’m a devoted mum and wife — and that’s just as important to me.
Why I Wouldn’t Change It
Running a business from home allows me to show up for my clients and my family in a way that works for us. It’s not conventional. It’s sometimes messy. But it’s also full of purpose, passion, and love — and that’s exactly the kind of energy I want in my life and my business.
So if you’re dreaming of running something from home, or you already are and you’re feeling the wobble, know this: you are doing something amazing. And you don’t have to do it perfectly for it to be enough.
